My body of work is based around Halloween, which is one of my favorite holidays and has been ever since I was little. When I chose my theme for the art show in October, I was immersed in Halloween spirit. My art show consists of 6 pieces: a pumpkin, a cauldron, a not-so-haunted house, and three ghosts. I started off by making the pumpkin. I threw a bowl and closed it to the top so it was hollow inside. Then, I carved lines in it to mimic the lines on a real pumpkin. I put a stem on it and made some small leaves and rolled a coil to be a vine. I glazed the pumpkin orange, the stem dark green, and the leaves light green to look like a real pumpkin. The next piece I made was the cauldron. I began by throwing a bowl and trimming the bottom round. I then added some legs on the bottom and some goo pouring down the edge of it. I glazed the inside of the cauldron and the goo on the edge a dark, muddy green and the rest of it I glazed black. Next are my three little ghosts. I rolled out slabs and cut circles out of them. Then, I shaped and molded the circles to look like ghosts floating. Finally, I added some small eyes and glazed them black and the rest of the ghost white. The last piece I made is a not-so-haunted house. For this piece, I made four slabs and scored and slipped them together. Then, I made two more slabs and stuck them on the top for a roof. I rolled out some short coils and made a door. Then, I glazed the whole house white and added some brown, rusty spots. I want my viewer to look at my body of work as a bit eccentric and whimsical.
